We recently appointed our first four Student Ambassadors representing the following areas: diversity, sustainability, welfare, and student communities.
Our Student Ambassadors aim to inspire current and potential students at open events and webinars, and through networking. They also have a presence on social media and email communications where they answer questions about the student experience and give advice.
We have already introduced you to our Diversity Student Ambassador, Ranikque Hayden-Best, our Communities Student Ambassador, James Doyle, and our Welfare Student Ambassador, Paul Adeleye, and finally we introduce you to our Sustainability Student Ambassador, Vicki Grimshaw…
Career to date
I didn’t know what I wanted to do after sixth form, so I made the decision not to go to university and then sort of fell into residential estate agency. A friend of mine worked briefly in recruitment and she suggested I move over to commercial and found me my current role, where the next logical progression was surveyor.
I’ve been in the property industry for nearly nine years now and am just entering my final year of the BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management course. I still have absolutely no idea what I want to do next!
Sustainability Student Ambassador role
During my participation in the Responsible Futures Working Group and the student audit team, I really came to appreciate the seriousness with which UCEM take their responsibility for educating the future generations of property professionals, and that this is not just a box-ticking exercise for them.
Internally, they are passionate about sustainability, not just as an organisation, but as individuals. When I heard about the Ambassador role, I saw this as an amazing opportunity to get involved to help spread awareness about the efforts they are putting in, to inspire passion in the student body, and through this, help UCEM to continue to reach higher and meet their target of becoming the world’s most sustainable university.
My aim in the role is to build a community of students passionate about creating change for a more sustainable future.
Helping to create a more sociable university experience
Studying part-time whilst in full-time employment is a challenge. UCEM is an exceptional institution, but online learning can sometimes be lonely and isolating. I hope that through my role and, alongside the other ambassadors and student reps, that we are able to help remove a degree of this and give students a more sociable university experience.
Keep an eye out on our social channels for other updates from our Ambassadors over the coming months.
