How to meet the language requirements
All UCEM programmes are taught and assessed in English. You will therefore be required to demonstrate adequate proficiency in the language before being admitted to a programme.
Undergraduate programmes
For undergraduate study you should possess one of the following:
- GCSE Grade 4 (or C) or above in English Language or English Literature, or an equivalent qualification.
- Grade 5.5 or above, with at least 5.5 in the reading and writing modules, in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic test administered by the British Council
- 79 or above in the Internet option, 213 or above in the computer-based option or 550 or above in the paper-based option, of the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test
- Grade C or above in English (Language or Literature) at A/S Level
- A cognate sub-degree (Level 5) qualification taught and assessed in English from the University of Hong Kong or City University of Hong Kong.
Postgraduate programmes
For postgraduate study you should possess one of the following:
- GCSE Grade 4 (or C) or above in English Language or English Literature, or an equivalent qualification.
- Grade 6.0 or above, with at least 6.0 in the reading and writing modules, in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic test administered by the British Council
- 88 or above in the Internet option, 230 or above in the computer-based option or 570 or above in the paper-based option, of the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test
- Grade C or above in English (Language or Literature) at A/S Level
- A cognate sub-degree (Level 5) qualification taught and assessed in English from the University of Hong Kong or City University of Hong Kong.
Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree that has been taught and examined in the English medium can be considered for entry in the absence of the English language qualifications detailed above.
How to meet the entry requirements
The entry requirements for our Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes are the same for both UK and international students. Please refer to the programme specific pages for more information. To demonstrate your eligibility please complete our online application form and upload copies of your qualification certificates and/or transcripts.
UCEM utilise a service called UK NARIC to determine the equivalency of international qualifications. UK NARIC is the National Agency responsible for providing information, advice and opinion on vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. As the National Agency, managed on behalf of the UK Government, they provide the only official source of information on international education and training systems and wide-ranging international qualifications and skills attained from outside the UK.

Before completing your application please ensure you are familiar with the programme entry requirements and time commitments. These can be found on the relevant programme page on our website. If you have any questions at this stage, please contact the Enquiries team via live chat or via the contact us page.
Please provide as much information as possible when completing the application form. You should ensure you have details of all your qualifications and employment history to hand as you will be asked to provide this information when completing the form.
You will also be required to provide the following supporting documentation with your application form:
- Verified* proof of identification
- Verified* qualification certificates
- CV or resume
- Academic transcript and syllabus information (if you wish to apply for credit transfer/exemptions)

Please note that we are unable to assess your application without copies of your qualification certificates. You will be prompted to upload these documents at the relevant section of the application form. If you are unable to upload your documents you can log back in to your application form and upload them later.
- You will be notified by email when your application has been received by the Admissions Team. You should receive an initial decision on your application within 10 working days.
