Programme: BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying
Tell us about your time at UCEM so far
I was introduced to UCEM through my apprenticeship at Carillion PLC. I love the flexibility of online learning allowing me to balance my home, work and studies much more than the traditional form of university having to go to lectures at a set time.
When Carillion went into liquidation in my new role I was offered the opportunity to go to a local university instead. However, I declined the offer and I am continuing my studies with UCEM.
I am currently in my second year and although online learning does come with its challenges I wouldn’t change anything.
Tell us about the most interesting project you have worked on or are most proud of
When Carillion went into liquidation I was faced with the reality that if I was not employed by the end of the month my studies would be terminated. So with this in mind and support from UCEM I was able to find employment and complete the semester with high grades.
Where do you see yourself in 15 years’ time?
I see myself as a fully chartered QS working independently mentoring the next generation of Quantity surveyors and developing continually as the profession does.
What does the Future of the Built Environment mean to you?
There is still so much for us to explore and utilise and learn about the built environment. I think it is important to continue to strive for a sustainable approach as much as possible and work together as a team to achieve projects that may seem impossible.
