UCEM Tutors Team Up on Podcast Dedicated to Preventing Another Grenfell

Posted on: 19 September, 2018

The Grenfell Tower fire dominated the conversation of a podcast released by two UCEM tutors last week.

Entitled ‘Grenfell: How to Prevent This Happening Again’, Real Estate Tutor, Natasha Collins was joined by BSc (Hons) Building Surveying Programme Leader, Jane Ballantyne, for her weekly podcast*.

Natasha spoke to Jane about her research info fire safety in high-rise buildings and her reaction to the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety led by Dame Judith Hackitt.

Natasha and Jane also gave advice to landlords, investors and surveyors on how to prevent such atrocities taking place on any building they are working on.

Natasha commented: “It was fantastic to speak to Jane about such a vital issue for the built environment. Jane is an expert in building surveying, and has been following the Grenfell developments very closely so it was good that we were able to give advice relating to our respective backgrounds in construction and real estate.

“Everyone in the built environment has to stand up and take responsibility for keeping occupiers safe. It starts with understanding where problems and defects arise and then getting to work on putting it right. This podcast gives some pointers of how you can take action now to make your buildings fire safe.”
