First bespoke CPD training modules for service Veterans launched by UCEM and BuildForce

Posted on: 4 May, 2020

The first in a series of bespoke construction training modules for Veterans have been launched by UCEM and BuildForce today.

UCEM’s ‘Introduction to the construction Industry’ learning module, which provides a greater understanding of the industry, and a mini module outlining a career road map in construction site management are now live on its Online Academy.

Three further career road map outlines for construction project management, quantity surveying (commercial management) and building surveying in construction will follow next week.

The modules have been designed in response to research carried out by UCEM which found that Veterans would like to learn about roles within the industry, how a construction site works, salaries and career progression, and self-employment.

This work has been carried out as part of the CITB’s Pathways into Construction programme with BuildForce, focusing on the Veteran cohort.

UCEM Principal, Ashley Wheaton, commented: “I am delighted that we are taking the lead in providing online learning modules for Veterans about the construction industry. BuildForce does such great work in plotting career paths for service leavers within the construction industry and I am glad that we can add our name to the list of industry partners the programme works with to support both personnel and the industry.

“I hope the modules we create are accessed by Veterans with an interest in construction and that it’s a success for all parties.”

BuildForce Chair, Angela Forbes, added: “BuildForce is delighted to be collaborating with UCEM in the compilation of these bespoke construction modules. They are a great addition to the BuildForce service and allow us to showcase the disciplines available in construction.

“This partnership brings the added value of directly linking those veterans who wish to further their education. UCEM offers a host of construction related degrees and these modules offer an insight into what’s available.”

Interested Veterans should go to the BuildForce website (https://www.buildforce.org.uk/) to obtain a URL and password to find out more.
