Overview

Built for construction

The role of a Construction Quantity Surveying Technician is to provide support on the monitoring and controlling of costs and contracts. Their expertise, understanding and competencies provide a valuable contribution to the overall successful running of construction projects.

This Level 4 apprenticeship includes the knowledge, skills and behaviours typically required to be a successful Construction Quantity Surveying Technician and achieve Technician status or the equivalent.

About this apprenticeship

What can you expect?

You’ll spend your time on this apprenticeship learning through a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job training. Your academic learning (off-the-job) is complimented by the wide range of knowledge, skills and behaviours you’ll learn through practical experience provided by your employer. For example, one day in your studies you may be learning about the different types of procurement processes and negotiation requirements for a construction project, and then the next day you may be out on site, putting those skills into practice. The learning from your job will significantly support the success of this apprenticeship.

At the end of your academic learning, you‘ll take the end point assessment (EPA) which is designed to assess whether you have learnt everything needed to become a technical member of the The Chartered Institute of Building (TechCIOB). This particular EPA is assessed via an online test, project and a professional discussion. The standard duration for this is 6 months after the completion of the academic programme.

This apprenticeship standard aligns with the professional recognition needed by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
