UCEM adopts IHRA’s definition of antisemitism

UCEM has adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.

There is no place for racism, discrimination or bullying at UCEM, with the adoption of the definition an important step in the university’s efforts to be an inclusive place to work and study.

UCEM’s Student Disciplinary Policy, External Speaker Policy and Safeguarding Glossary have been updated to reflect the adoption of the IHRA’s definition of antisemitism, and awareness events will be organised for staff and students.

UCEM Deputy Principal, Jane Fawkes, commented: “We are firmly committed to ensuring UCEM is an inclusive place to work and study.

“The adoption of the IHRA’s definition of antisemitism is part of our continuing efforts to make students and staff aware of the different types of racism, discrimination and bullying which, sadly, exist in society.

“Education is important in helping others understand the discrimination people encounter and promoting treating others as you would wish to be treated, regardless of gender, age, ethnic or national origins, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identification or disability.”
