We did it! CEM Receives University College Title

Posted on: 27 November, 2015

Well, what a monumental time for the college – as you may be aware, on Thursday November 11 we reached an important milestone by achieving the title of university college. When this was officially announced last Wednesday it was celebrations all round here at the newly named University College of Estate Management.

Ashley Wheaton, University College of Estate Management Principal, commented in his address to the college, “Today is a momentous day for us all, I’m delighted, overjoyed, thrilled, to tell you that we’ve achieved university college title and the college is now the University College of Estate Management.Thank you for the tremendous work that has been done over the recent years in getting us to this point. We’ve all worked incredibly hard to achieve this monumental milestone in our history and it couldn’t have been achieved without each and every one of you.”

This achievement acknowledges our excellent work within the Higher Education sector, Built Environment industry, and our continued growth as an independent institution. Becoming University College of Estate Management is the greatest point to date in our illustrious history; we started with our foundation in 1919, then came the Royal Charter in 1922, followed by the Queen’s patronage in 1977 – and, finally, Taught Degree Awarding Powers in 2012.

The title does not in itself change the way we work or the qualifications we offer – as always, we remain committed to providing accessible, flexible and cost-effective education for a better Built Environment. However, we plan to provide additional programmes over the next few years – such as the apprenticeship diploma – to meet the requirements of students, employers and professional bodies.

In the New Year, we’ll be introducing our new UCEM brand, launching a new website, and revealing our plans for 2016.

Looking towards the future, this progression is a significant step towards making sure we support everyone in furthering or starting their career within the Built Environment. We can be proud of the fact that we’re responsible for educating more and more of the future talent of our industry – especially, as the need for highly qualified graduates in our industry has never been more apparent.

Once again, we want to thank everyone who helped make this possible and say thank you for all our messages of support, congratulations and well wishes. We look forward to many more successes and continuing to work with the industry to help everyone realise their potential in the Built Environment.
